Phase II EDRI-JICA Policy Dialogue on Industrial Development Finalized
The Ethiopian Development Research Institute (EDRI) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) held the ninth forum of Phase II Policy Dialogue on Industrial Development between the governments of Ethiopia and Japan on 05 July, 2016 at the Hilton Addis Ababa.
The conclusion of the second phase also served as a preparatory forum towards the establishment of the third phase for future cooperation focusing on Ethio-Japan Industrial Sector Action Plan. Dr. Gebrehiwot Ageba delivered macro perspective on “Main points of GTP II: Macro Policy including stable foreign exchange to give confidence to FDI.” Following, H.E. Mr Fitsum Arega, Commissioner, Ethiopian Investment Commission made a presentation on main points of GTP II specifically on “incentives mechanism, attracting FDI, especially focusing on export oriented manufacturing industry” while Mr. Ahmed Nuru, Director, Policy & Program Study Monitoring presented on “Industrial Policy: Capacity building of domestic private sector of GTP II”. Finally, a presentation on “Discussion points on Ethiopia-Japan Action Plan for Industrial Development” was made by Professor K. Ohno, National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS).
The forum was opened by remarks from Excellences Mr. Ahmed Abetew, Minister, Ministry of Industry; Mr. Kazuhiro Suzuki; and Mr. Kimiaki Jin, Chief Representative, JICA Ethiopia Office. His Excellency Mr. Newai Gebre-ab chaired and delivered concluding remarks.
Participants include high level officials, researchers and experts from different ministries, such as the Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Science and Technology, National Planning Commission, Ethiopian Investment Commission, GRIPS, Embassy of Japan.
