Stakeholders Workshop for Interactions between Industrial Policies and Green Economy in Ethiopia
The Ethiopian Development Research Institute held a Stakeholders Workshop on the Interactions between Industrial Policies and Green Economy Strategies in Ethiopia on December 17, 2015 at the Golden Tulip Addis Ababa Hotel.
The workshop was aimed at informing stakeholders about the progress of the project and gathering important insights for further development of tools for the field work and future tasks.
Dr. Gebrehiwot Ageba, Director of Programs at EDRI, gave introduction and welcoming speech followed by a brief on the progress of the project by Professor Yacob Mulugeta, University College London. Professor Yacob also gave some perspectives on the trade-off and alignment between the two components of the project, Industrial Policy and Green Growth. Dr. Jeremy Wakeford, Quantum Global Research Lab, Switzerland, then presented on Greening the Manufacturing Sector with Applications to the Leather and Textile Industries, explaining the concept of Greening, its relevance and its implications to the leather and textile industries.
A scoping work on the Ethiopian CRGE, industrial policy and current institutional and policy landscape was also presented by Tsegaye Ginbo, EDRI. Dr. Mulu Gebreyesus gave an introduction to the survey and questionnaire summary on environmental activity and performance and Dr. Jeremy gave questionnaire summary on innovation and other general issues. Each component of the workshop was followed by a 10-15 minutes question and answer session.
It is to be recalled that the launching workshop was held on May 4, 2015. The project partners include, EDRI, the University College London (UCL), University of Reading, Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) and Quantum Global.
