A team of IDRC delegation visited EDRI on September 2, 2014. The team comprised of the president of IDRC, Jean Lebel, IDRC Acting Chairperson, the Honorary Monte Solberg, IDRC Governor, Gordon Houlden, IDRC Vice President, Programs and Partnerships, Stephen McGurk, and IDRC Communications Specialist, Gloria Lihemo. The IDRC delegation team was met by four members of the EDRI Management; Newai Gebre-ab, Executive Director of EDRI, Mulu Gebreeyesus, Senior Researcher; the Lead Coordinator Director of the Economic Policy Analysis Unit, and Mezgebe Mihretu, Policy Analyst, Logistics, Trade and Private Sector Development.
The purpose of the visit was to learn about the impact of IDRC support to EDRI and planned activities. The executive director of EDRI, Newai Gebre-ab made a presentation briefing the team about EDRI and how the first phase of the TTI funds have been deployed in capacitating the institute’s staff development activities and organizational infrastructure. He also presented future activities and anticipated challenges that might be recurring during the second phase. Following the presentation, the EDRI management members gave responses to a series of questions from the delegation members who wanted to know more about EDRI’s strategies to overcome its challenges as a semi-autonomous institute.
